According to a statement from the PGRL, the incidents occurred between June 25 and September 7 of last year, with fires igniting in the late afternoon and evening, typically after the individual consumed alcoholic beverages.
The Loures Court confirmed that six of the forest fire crimes took place on land adjacent to the Complementary Itinerary 22 (IC22), near a residential area.
One of the forest fires broke out in the locality of Ramada, in the Odivelas municipality, within the Lisbon district.
These fires consumed a total of more than 2,000 square meters of vegetation and posed a concrete threat to the nearby homes and their residents. The situation did not escalate thanks to the prompt intervention of the Odivelas firefighters and the local population, who in some cases assisted in extinguishing the flames, as reported by the PGRL.
Despite the conviction, the Public Prosecutor’s Office is considering appealing the penalty decision, seeking its increase.
