A 50-year-old man wanted by Brazilian authorities for sexual abuse of minors has been detained in Beja, Alentejo. The Judicial Police (PJ) disclosed this information on Friday, September 19, in a statement to Notícias ao Minuto.
The incidents took place in 2015 at the suspect’s family home in Minas Gerais, Brazil, according to the inspectors.
The suspect is the father of two of the victims and the stepfather of another, all under the age of 14.
The sexual abuses reportedly occurred in private, repeatedly. To ensure the children remained silent, the Brazilian promised them “benefits.”
In addition to these assaults, the man allegedly facilitated the children’s access to pornographic material, taking advantage of his then-wife’s absence.
After committing the crimes, the man traveled to Portugal, where he has been residing irregularly for approximately 10 years.
Consequently, the case was reported to the Border and Foreigners Coordination Unit.
The PJ further mentioned that the Interpol ‘red notice’ was issued in September this year.
The detainee will now appear before the Court of Appeal in Évora for a decision and application of appropriate preventive measures.
