A 50-year-old man was fatally stabbed by his 60-year-old sister on the afternoon of Tuesday, November 26, on the island of São Miguel, Azores.

The crime occurred within a context of domestic violence in the parish of Ponta Garça, in Vila Franca do Campo.

The alleged perpetrator, reportedly intoxicated at the time, stabbed her brother, who was also under the influence of alcohol, “violently in the torso area, following a family dispute.”

The man was transported to the Hospital do Divino Espírito Santo in Ponta Delgada but succumbed to his injuries.

The suspect was admitted to the psychiatric unit of the same hospital. Only after evaluation can she be formally detained by the Polícia Judiciária (PJ) and brought before a court for the application of appropriate coercive measures.
