
A 27-year-old man was arrested by the Public Security Police (PSP) on suspicion of committing a street theft in Lisbon, the authority announced on Friday.
According to the PSP, the man was apprehended by hotel employees after fleeing the crime scene.
The arrest took place after officers observed “two people running, which immediately raised suspicion.” The officers approached the two men, who reported that the suspect “had just stolen a mobile phone” and fled “towards the parking lot of a hotel near their location.”
Upon arrival, it was determined that “the employees had detained the suspect, who was fleeing from the two witnesses.”
During a safety frisk, officers found the stolen mobile phone in the suspect’s possession.
Additionally, another mobile phone was seized, along with an identity card, two Lisbon Metro Navegante cards, a Novo Banco card, an HSBC card, and a BIZ DEBIT card.
Further inquiries revealed that the suspect was “illegally residing in the country.”
After being presented to the Criminal Court in Lisbon, the suspect was released on the condition of weekly reporting.
