A 30-year-old man was identified as a suspect by the Guarda Nacional Republicana (GNR) on Sunday, July 20, following a theft from a commercial establishment in Santa Maria da Feira.
A statement released today by GNR indicated they were alerted to a “theft incident at a commercial establishment” on Saturday, July 19. Authorities conducted investigations that “led to the identification and location of the suspect.”
“The suspect was approached by the GNR, and it was confirmed that he was in possession of the stolen items,” the statement reads.
The GNR successfully recovered “four food product machines and children’s toys,” which were then returned to the “rightful owner.”
The suspect was identified as a defendant, and the case was referred to the Judicial Court of Santa Maria da Feira.
It is noteworthy that, according to the Annual Internal Security Report (RASI), last year saw an increase in burglary crimes in areas adjacent to residences (up by 411), fiscal trust abuse (up by 415), supermarket thefts (up by 511), and counterfeiting and currency imitation (up by 1,555).

Violent and serious crime increased by 2.6% last year compared to 2023, with 14,385 crimes recorded, while overall crime decreased by 4.6%, registering 354,878 reports, according to the Annual Internal Security Report (RASI).
