A 31-year-old man was apprehended by the Public Security Police (PSP) last Sunday on Avenida dos Aliados in Porto, on suspicion of theft.
In a statement, the PSP detailed that the suspect was “intercepted while fleeing from bystanders who were pursuing him” as he threatened them with a fire extinguisher, “discharging the powder at those attempting to confront him.”
“During the incident, the officer attempted to approach the suspect, who struck him in the face with the extinguisher, yet with the help of bystanders, he was apprehended,” later being handcuffed.
The suspect was found with stolen items that “he had previously taken from inside a commercial establishment,” which were confiscated.
The detainee has been presented to the judicial authority and was subjected to the measure of “house arrest” while he awaits “preventive detention until electronic monitoring devices are installed.”
