A 26-year-old man was detained last Wednesday in the municipality of Sabugal on suspicion of domestic violence, the National Republican Guard (GNR) reported on Saturday.
In a statement, the Territorial Command of Guarda explained that the arrest followed a complaint, leading GNR officers to the scene where they discovered the suspect had “threatened the victims, his 29-year-old partner, their 11-month-old daughter, and his 65-year-old mother-in-law, forcing entry into their home.”
The detainee was presented at the Judicial Court of Guarda, where he was subjected to restraining orders prohibiting him from approaching the victim, her residence, and her workplace within a two-kilometer radius, “monitored via electronic bracelet.” The man is also required to undergo alcohol treatment.
The GNR reminds that domestic violence is a public crime and reporting it is a collective responsibility.
