A 35-year-old man has been arrested by the Judiciary Police on suspicion of attempting to murder his two brothers-in-law in the municipality of Lagoa, located on São Miguel Island in the Azores.
In a statement released to newsrooms on Saturday, the PJ revealed that the attempted homicide incidents occurred on November 12. The investigation uncovered that the crimes were allegedly driven by “family disagreements between the suspect and his two brothers-in-law, aged 49 and 54, in a context involving the consumption of synthetic substances by all three individuals.”
According to the Judiciary Police, during the altercation, the suspect used a “sharp cutting instrument,” which resulted in severe injuries to the torsos of his brothers-in-law. The victims required medical assistance and were urgently transported to the hospital, where they underwent surgery.
Meanwhile, the suspect was brought before the competent judicial authorities and was subjected to precautionary measures, including being prohibited from contacting or approaching the victims.
