A 34-year-old man was arrested by the Public Security Police (PSP) on Sunday, October 26, in Mina de Água, Amadora, for assaulting an officer and domestic violence. The suspect was already under house arrest.
The PSP stated in a communiqué that “the police intervention followed an alert of aggression and property destruction inside a residence.”
Upon arrival, PSP officers were informed that “the suspect was inside the home, highly agitated, damaging the household contents.”
A witness disclosed that “the suspect’s behavior had deteriorated since learning of a judicial decision” that sentenced him “to five years in prison” and was at the time “under house arrest.”
After multiple “attempts at dialogue” by the PSP, “the suspect threw various objects at one officer,” hitting “his leg and subsequently throwing mirror fragments with clear intent to harm.”
“Following procedural steps, the accused was brought before a judicial inquiry at the Lisbon West Judicial Court – Amadora Courts, where he remained under house arrest,” the report reads.
However, after the restraint measure was applied, “the suspect’s father petitioned the court,” stating that “he did not want his son at home,” leading to a stricter measure of preventive detention.
