The Public Prosecutor’s Office has charged a foreign national who invaded a home in Óbidos and attacked a family, leading to the death of a 72-year-old man, with multiple crimes, including aggravated homicide.
“The Public Prosecutor’s Office of DIAP Leiria has brought charges against a defendant for the crime of aggravated homicide, two counts of attempted aggravated homicide, one of possession of a prohibited weapon, and another of home invasion,” stated a note released Wednesday by the Leiria District Public Prosecutor’s Office.
The incident occurred in the early hours of March 21, 2025, in the municipality of Óbidos, when “the defendant entered the victims’ residences and attacked them violently, resulting in the death of one and serious injuries to the other two.”
On March 21, the Judicial Police reported that, in close collaboration with the National Republican Guard (GNR), they detained a foreign citizen suspected of committing an aggravated homicide, two attempted aggravated homicides, and possession of a prohibited weapon.
The man was caught in the act by the GNR, and the crime happened “at the victims’ home, resulting in one fatality, a 72-year-old man, as well as two critically injured individuals, a 69-year-old woman, the deceased man’s wife, and their 30-year-old son.”
According to the Judicial Police, “the victims were known to the assailant,” a 32-year-old man. They had “worked together for approximately four years in agricultural jobs in the Óbidos area, which is believed to be the cause of disagreements.”
The crimes were reported by a 30-year-old woman, also residing in the home, who was unharmed.
After appearing before the Court of Caldas da Rainha, the suspect was “subject to the coercive measure of pre-trial detention.”
