The suspect arrested on Thursday after delivering the head of a decapitated man found in Pátio Salema, near Rossio in central Lisbon on Wednesday, has confessed to the crime.
The victim and the aggressor reportedly met on the night of the crime, which was allegedly motivated by a yet-to-be-determined disagreement. Both individuals are foreigners.
The victim is identified as a citizen of African descent.
The suspect, a 29-year-old engineering student, admitted to committing the murder and mutilation with a kitchen knife in a public area. He described the crime’s details and his actions following the incident until he left the victim’s head at the police post at Hospital de São José at 3:30 PM today. The head was reportedly inside a backpack.
The alert was given at 3:30 PM on Thursday when an individual approached the police post at Hospital de São José in Lisbon with the head.
“The individual confessed to being involved in the situation. He was handed over to the custody of the Judicial Police,” stated the Lisbon Metropolitan Command of the Public Security Police (PSP).
The man will appear in court on Friday for the application of coercive measures.
The decapitated body was found at 6:45 AM on Wednesday.
