A man, strongly suspected of committing aggravated domestic violence and rape, was released after a judicial hearing at the Court of Criminal Investigation in Leiria on June 13.
The Public Prosecutor’s Office of Leiria announced on Monday that the man was detained on June 12 during a criminal investigation overseen by the Public Ministry’s Department of Investigation and Penal Action of Alcobaça.
“It was strongly indicated that on several occasions the defendant insulted, threatened, and physically assaulted his partner, with whom he had lived for several years in a common-law marriage,” the note stated.
Furthermore, the defendant “acted with the intention of forcing the victim to engage in intercourse, fully aware that it was against her will.”
In acting this way, “the defendant intended and succeeded in causing suffering, humiliation, and shame to the victim, violating her honor, consideration, and dignity, in a prevailing and dominating stance, thus causing her psychological distress.”
The man “also acted with the fulfilled purpose of harming his partner’s body and compromising her freedom of determination and sexual freedom.”
The suspect appeared in his initial judicial interrogation, and as requested by the Public Prosecutor, it was decided that he would await the proceedings subject to the conditions of a term of identity and residence (TIR), prohibitions against contacting the victim by any means except for matters related to their minor child, which must be communicated through written messages, and prohibitions against visiting or staying at her residence or workplace, as well as any location where she might be,” noted the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Leiria.
The investigation continues under the direction of the Public Ministry’s Department of Investigation and Penal Action of Alcobaça, with assistance from the NIAVE of the GNR of Leiria.
