Man who stabbed woman in May in Lisbon charged with 18 crimes

The defendant has been charged by the Public Prosecutor’s Office with one count of stalking, 13 counts of computer forgery, one count of attempted aggravated murder, one count of aggravated bodily harm, and one count of aggravated damage, as per information available on the website of the Lisbon Regional Prosecutor’s Office (PGRL).

The charges state that “after the victim expressed disinterest in maintaining any contact with the defendant, blocking him on all social media, he, dissatisfied with this decision, continued to attempt contact by all means, creating multiple profiles on social media or watching the entrance of the building where the victim resided.”

The attempted murder took place in the late afternoon of May 28, when the defendant awaited the victim after work, followed her, and in the parking lot withdrew a knife from his backpack and inflicted over a hundred blows on her body, mainly targeting the head, torso, face, and upper limbs.

“Even with the victim on the ground, the defendant continued to stab and kick her and also inflicted knife wounds on a bystander who tried to stop the assault, injuring him as well,” according to the PGRL.

The victim sustained several injuries and underwent surgical procedures.

Following the arrest and judicial questioning, the defendant was placed in pretrial detention, which remains in effect.

The Public Prosecutor also requests that, upon conviction, the defendant be prohibited from contacting the victim for six months to three years and be mandated to attend specific prevention programs for behaviors typical of stalking.

The Public Prosecutor has requested a trial by a collective court in a regular legal process.
