Born in Lisbon on August 19, 1931, Manuel Pedro was a member of the Portuguese Communist Party (PCP) since 1956, joining the party’s ranks of officials in May 1959. He was imprisoned three times, serving a total of 11 years.

“In each instance, he faced the confrontation with the PIDE [International and State Defense Police] agents with great courage,” noted the party, which announced his death “with profound grief and sadness,” extending “deep condolences to his daughters, granddaughters, and great-grandchildren.”
