The President of the Republic remarked today that there is a prevalence of “piecemeal” decision-making in healthcare management, characterized by “very short-term solutions” and blurred lines between the responsibilities of the Government and the Executive Directorate of the SNS.
“After six months, a year, a year and a half, it is advisable to have an overall reference framework, notwithstanding the ever-present emergencies,” stated Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, at ISCTE – University Institute of Lisbon, during the closing of a conference marking 50 years of the Peripheral Medical Service (SMP).
The head of state highlighted that the current scenario is marked by “a dispersion of decisions, a weariness of decisions, and solutions for the very short-term or short-term, without a clear long-term objective.” This situation aligns with what he termed “the rocky path, which is the most difficult path.”
