In a statement published on the official website of the Palácio de Belém, President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa addresses “all healthcare professionals,” acknowledging their “daily efforts.”
“President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa has always defended and will continue to defend the National Health Service (SNS) as a fundamental pillar of health promotion in Portugal and a structuring principle of our democratic society,” the statement reads.
For the Portuguese head of state, the SNS is “composed of people, stories, achievements, successes, and applause,” but it is also “subject to weaknesses and challenges.”
“It is, therefore, important to continue fighting for the SNS, facing problems with courage, seeking answers, testing solutions, and investing in innovation to ensure the future and sustainability of the National Health Service.”
