During the previous legislative session, the Government decided to revise the career structure of judicial officers, consolidating the existing seven categories into just two – clerk and judicial technician.
Following the establishment of the special career path for judicial officers, it became evident during the implementation of this change that transitioning to two categories could potentially disadvantage those employees who were promoted under the previous seven-category system.
A Ministry of Justice representative explained that the decree promulgated by Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa today aims to clarify the criteria for repositioning judicial officers into the new categories, ensuring that prior promotions are considered in this process.
The revision of the judicial officers’ statutes was approved by the Council of Ministers in March of this year, and a new salary structure was also introduced.
Regarding the minimum educational qualifications required for entry into this career, a degree is now mandatory, and the initial salary level is set at level 18 of the Public Administration’s pay scale, equating to approximately 1,547 euros.
