
President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa expressed congratulations through an official statement, highlighting that the Professional Education sector deserves accolades with Portugal earning four medals of Excellence, two silver, and three gold in the competition.
Portugal achieved seven medals on Saturday, including two gold, one silver, and four excellence awards, in the 9th edition of the European Skills Championship (EuroSkills), after competing against 32 countries over three days in Denmark.
Notable achievements include Marco Malheiro from Ponte de Lima, Viana do Castelo, who claimed a gold medal in welding, and the team of Diogo Pinto from Lousada, Porto, and Loris Sgroj from Celorico de Basto, Braga, who won gold in robotic systems integration.
The silver medal was awarded to Diogo Botelho and Simão Alves, both from Torres Vedras, Lisbon, in mechatronics.
Botelho and Alves also received the best of the nation award, given to the competitor with the highest score in each country. They achieved 777 points, the highest mark for Portugal.
The four medals of excellence were awarded to Leonor Silva from Santa Maria da Feira, Aveiro, in hairdressing; Dmitry Zhivitsa from Águeda, Aveiro, in milling; Nelson Ribeiro from Felgueiras, Porto, in industrial control; and Bruno Ribeiro from Vila Real in electrical installations.
The EuroSkills event took place from Tuesday to Saturday in Herning, on the Jutland Peninsula, where Portugal fielded 15 young competitors across 13 professional areas.
The European Skills Championship will return in 2027.
The 10th edition of EuroSkills will be co-hosted by Germany and Luxembourg in Dusseldorf, scheduled from September 22 to 26, 2026, at the Messe Düsseldorf exhibition center.
