Portuguese President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa will be formally welcomed by German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier at Bellevue Palace in Berlin at 11:00 with a ceremony including national anthems, flag review, and salute.
Following the reception, the President of Portugal will hold a bilateral meeting with his German counterpart before heading to a Portuguese restaurant in Berlin for lunch.
Around 16:40, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa and Frank-Walter Steinmeier will visit the Bürgerfest (Citizens’ Festival), also at Bellevue Palace, which this year features Portugal as the guest country.
The two-day festival aims to “honor voluntary work and promote civic engagement,” as stated in an official note released on the President of Portugal’s webpage.
The Portuguese embassy in Germany reports that Portugal’s stands at the event will focus on themes such as the sea, culture, national cuisine, and football, featuring the Nations League trophy won by the national team in June.
During his visit to Bürgerfest, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa will deliver a speech at the opening ceremony, tour the festival stalls, and attend a debate on “honor day – how it strengthens what unites us.”
At the festival’s conclusion, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa will enjoy concerts by Portuguese band Black Mamba and German country rock band The BossHoss.
Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa arrived in Berlin this Thursday for an official visit to Germany. On Saturday, he is scheduled to depart for Lisbon at 11:00 with no further engagements in Berlin.
The President’s last visit to Germany was from June 7-8, when he joined Prime Minister Luís Montenegro for the June 10th celebrations, meeting with the Portuguese community in Stuttgart.
During that visit, the President also traveled to Munich with Luís Montenegro to witness the national team’s victory against Spain in the Nations League final at the stadium.
