
The President of Portugal, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, expressed his sorrow on Saturday over the passing of Portuguese businessman Artur Meneses, the founder of Blocotelha and the international business group Mekkin.
“The President of the Republic extended his condolences by phone to the family of Artur Meneses, who passed away suddenly due to an unexpected illness. Meneses was a significant entrepreneur in the central region, employing several hundred people predominantly in the areas of Porto de Mós and Batalha. His companies also have branches in Spain, Morocco, France, Poland, Romania, and the Czech Republic,” stated an official note on the Presidential website.
Artur Meneses, a native of the municipality of Porto de Mós, died on May 1 following a hemorrhagic stroke. He was 74 years old.
Local media recalls that in 2010, Meneses was honored by the then President of Portugal, Aníbal Cavaco Silva, with the Order of Commander of the Order of Agricultural, Commercial, and Industrial Merit – Industrial Merit Class.
