
The official website of the Presidency of the Republic reports that the President of the Republic is departing today for an official visit to the Republic of Angola. At the invitation of President João Lourenço, he will participate in the celebration of the 50th anniversary of Angola’s national independence.
The visit is described as a significant moment in the close cooperation and deep friendship between Portugal and Angola. President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa will be accompanied by the Minister of State and Foreign Affairs, as well as a deputy from each parliamentary group of the Assembly of the Republic.
Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa is scheduled to arrive in Luanda on Monday. Later that day, he will meet with representatives of the Portuguese community residing in Angola.
On Tuesday, the Portuguese head of state will attend the Ceremony for the Commemoration of Angola’s 50 years of Independence, which was proclaimed on November 11, 1975.
This visit by the President of the Republic received unanimous approval from the Assembly of the Republic.
This marks his seventh visit to Angola. He has previously attended the inaugurations of President João Lourenço in 2017 and 2022, conducted a state visit in 2019, attended the Community of Portuguese Language Countries (CPLP) summit and the Biennale of Luanda – Pan-African Forum for the Culture of Peace in 2021, and participated in the funeral of José Eduardo dos Santos in 2022.
