Marcelo remembers António Mota, a figure who “made a mark in the business world”

The President of Portugal, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, highlighted the remarkable journey and human qualities of António Mota in a statement released on the official website of the Presidency of the Republic.

“António Mota made a significant impact on the business world and Portuguese society at large. He continued his father Manuel António da Mota’s legacy and expanded it globally, establishing one of the most powerful, known, and influential groups in our economy,” remarked the Head of State.

The President emphasized that António Mota “combined leadership with empathy, humanity with dynamism, simplicity with efficiency.”

“Without him, the last decades of our economy would have been different. Finally, he wisely prepared his succession in due time. May the younger generations live up to his vision,” he expressed.

The former president of Mota-Engil, António Mota, passed away today in Porto at the age of 71, the group announced, remembering him as a “historic leader,” “charismatic,” a “visionary entrepreneur,” and a “man of immense humanity.”

“The Mota-Engil Group regretfully announces with profound sorrow and consternation that engineer António Mota, the historic leader of the group who presided over it for more than 27 years, from 1995 to January 2023, passed away this morning in the city of Porto,” stated a release today.
