Marcelo will give the “shortest” speech he has ever made tomorrow.

Portuguese President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa announced plans to deliver his shortest speech to date on Saturday, concerning the upcoming Sunday elections.

The head of state stated he would address the Portuguese people at 1 p.m. on Saturday to make one of his few comments about the legislative elections.

He noted that this decision stems from his choice not to engage with or comment on the campaign to elect Portugal’s next prime minister.

“At this moment, the main priority for Portugal, after a very long and intense campaign and pre-campaign, is to participate and vote on Sunday,” he remarked, urging citizens to partake in the electoral process.

“On the eve, I will deliver the shortest message I’ve ever made in my mandates,” he began, adding that he would address the nation earlier than usual at 1 p.m. to allow a longer period for reflection.
