Marcelo’s phrase about Trump gives “the urge to laugh” among “bad news”

“I will answer you in this way, somewhat ironically: we have had an August with so much bad news, so much bad news. Nothing like such a statement for us to laugh a little,” said Paulo Raimundo, speaking to Lusa after participating in an election rally for the CDU candidacy in Paredes.

“Because it actually makes us want to laugh, and amidst so much news of fires, the consequences, the devastation, there is always something to cheer us up during this ‘silly season’ of August,” he quipped.

During his speech at the “Universidade de Verão do PSD,” a training initiative for young party cadres held in Castelo de Vide (Portalegre), the President of the Republic discussed the new geopolitical balance and a “peculiar and complex thing” about Donald Trump.

“The ultimate leader of the world’s greatest superpower is objectively a Soviet or Russian asset. He functions as an asset,” he declared.

The President of the Republic emphasized that the relationship between Republican Donald Trump and his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, is not “an alliance based on friendship, economic complicity, ideological or doctrinal.”

“I am saying that, in objective terms, the new American leadership has strategically favored the Russian Federation,” he argued.

Today, reacting to Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa’s statements, the Minister of Foreign Affairs declined to comment but noted that foreign policy is the responsibility of the Government and this is how the Portuguese position should be interpreted.
