Marés Vivas Festival kicks off with `boysband’ D’ZRT and Take That in the spotlight

The Marés Vivas festival kicks off today in Vila Nova de Gaia, in the district of Porto, with `boysband’ D’ZRT and Take That performing, on a day when DAMA and Syro also take to the main stage.

In its 16th edition, the festival, which runs until Sunday at the old Madalena campsite in Vila Nova de Gaia, features more than 30 national and international artists on the five stages of the venue, which opens at 16:00 and closes at 03:00.

On this first day, the headliners on the main stage are Portuguese boy band D’ZRT, who perform at 23:45 and close the night, and British band Take That, who perform two hours earlier.

D’ZRT, from the TV series “Morangos com Açúcar”, returned to the stage in 2023 on a tour that took more than 120,000 people to 12 sold-out venues across the country, after splitting up in 2008 after releasing two original albums “D’ZRT” and “Original”.

A year later, band members Angélico Vieira (who died in 2011), Vítor Fonseca (known as Cifrão), Edmundo Vieira and Paulo Vintém got back together for the release of “Project” and, in 2010, ended the band with a concert at Rock in Rio in Lisbon.

“Para Mim Tanto Me Faz”, “Verão Azul” and “Querer Voltar” were some of the hits from D’ZRT’s five albums.

The performance by British boy band Take That, which is currently made up of Gary Barlow, Mark Owen and Howard Donald, is part of the “This life under the stars” European tour.

Responsible for songs such as “Back for good”, “Rule the world”, “The flood” and “Never forget”, in September the band released their first single in five years, “Windows”, which is part of their ninth studio album “This life”.

Also on the main stage are Portuguese band DAMA, who celebrated their 10th anniversary in 2022 and whose hits are “Não Dá”, “Casa” and “Loucamente”, the latter two released in the last two years and which are currently the group’s most listened to songs on the platforms.

The 29-year-old Portuguese artist Syro, who released his first album “Génesis” in 2021 and took part in the Festival da Canção a year later, makes his Marés Vivas debut with his second album “11 11”, released this year.

On the other stages, Leo 2745, Catana, Branca Barros, Fernando Rocha, John Mendes, David Silva, João Miguel Costa and Orquestra Bamba Social will perform.

During Marés Vivas, the Sociedade de Transportes Coletivos do Porto (STCP) will be running a shuttle service between 16:00 and 04:00, connecting Aliados (Porto) and the entrance to the venue.
