“Rui Tavares comes from the radical left, allies with the radical left, votes favorably on proposals from the radical left, and then wants the Portuguese to believe he is not from the radical left,” accused Mariana Leitão during a visit to the Setúbal market in the context of the upcoming local elections on the 12th.
“That sly rhetoric from Rui Tavares no longer deceives the Portuguese,” added the liberal leader, accusing Bloco, PCP, and Livre of having fomented pro-Palestinian demonstrations in Lisbon.
On Saturday, “Rui Tavares realized the consequences of his discourse and the escalation of unrest it brought,” noted Mariana Leitão, urging the Livre spokesperson and his “coalition partner, the Bloco de Esquerda, to fundamentally moderate their discourse to prevent this escalation of chaos and disorder witnessed in recent days.”
On Saturday afternoon and this morning, Rui Tavares accused the IL of being desperate and not criticizing the PSD/CDS government, as occurred in the controversy over the stopover of Israeli F-35 fighters in the Azores.
“Rui Tavares is not used to being confronted with the slyness of his discourse,” but “he will not intimidate me with that type of insinuations and approaches.”
Regarding the passage of jets acquired by Israel from the U.S., Mariana Leitão considers the case “was explained by the Government” and “clarified.”
“It was a procedural administrative error,” information was “provided, the Government committed to change administrative procedures,” and “there is not much more to add to this case,” summarized the IL president, who has coalitions with PSD and CDS in two dozen municipalities, including Lisbon, Porto, Coimbra, and Faro.
“The Liberal Initiative is very different from all parties, be it the right or the left,” and “presents concrete proposals for the country,” with “a very differentiating approach,” she emphasized.
