“In this campaign, I did everything I had to do, gave everything I had to give,” stated Mariana Leitão during a liberal rally in front of the Matosinhos City Hall, led by the socialist Luísa Salgueiro, president of the National Association of Portuguese Municipalities.
“In four years, I would like us to be able to reach all the municipalities in the country, and we are going to work for that,” said Mariana Leitão, elected leader of the party three months ago, whose party presented candidates in 59 municipalities independently, 29 in coalition, and one candidacy solely for a Municipal Assembly.
Running in 308 municipalities is “an ambitious goal, which we will work on so that, in four years, this becomes a reality,” she remarked, also considering that a PS downfall, as early as Sunday, will be a “symbolic moment” and a “good sign for the country.”
Throughout the campaign, Mariana Leitão emphasized building new houses in response to the housing crisis and criticized the “cronyism” that persists in city councils, also proposing tax reductions and a fight against bureaucracy.
The campaign closing event gathered several dozen IL supporters, who fielded Filipe Garcia in Matosinhos, featuring vibrant colors and a modern musical choice, albeit less common than the usual at rallies.
