The coordinator of the Left Bloc (BE), Mariana Mortágua, aboard one of the flotilla boats heading to Gaza—which was attacked by a drone—has again urged the Portuguese Government and the European Union to protect the humanitarian mission and oppose Israel.
“I am a member of the Portuguese Parliament. The boat that was attacked carries a Portuguese flag, and there are Portuguese citizens on this mission. I call on my Government and the European authorities not only to protect this humanitarian mission but to fight against Israel for its crimes against humanity,” she stated to journalists in Tunisia.
The Portuguese deputy also mentioned that if “Israel poses a risk to this mission” and if “there is a risk involved,” it is “because a government is not adhering to the law.”
“Genocide is against the law; occupation is against the law; starving children is against the law; the humanitarian blockade is against the law. We have the law on our side. And if this mission is a risk, it is because a state is not complying with international law, and that state is Israel,” she asserted.
She further added, “We demand from all our governments, from all international institutions—the European institution, the European Union, the European Commission—to take a stand and defend the Palestinian people, to defend this mission.”
However, Mariana Mortágua noted that even if they do not take action, they will “continue.” “We are a superpower as people. We stand with the Palestinian people because we are defending humanity and human rights.”
“Today, Palestine. Tomorrow, all of us. All eyes on Gaza,” she declared.
