Mariana Mortágua will participate in a public engagement event addressing “issues with the Western Line” in Leiria, according to a schedule note circulated to newsrooms.
Joining Mortágua in this initiative are Marisa Matias, who has been substituting for Mortágua during the campaign, Parliament member Andreia Galvão, who represents Mortágua in the parliamentary leadership, and Livre’s spokesperson Isabel Mendes Lopes.
The four Portuguese individuals who were part of the Global Sumud Flotilla touched down at Lisbon’s Humberto Delgado Airport around 22:30 on Sunday. They were welcomed by family members and pro-Palestine supporters.
Bloco de Esquerda coordinator Mariana Mortágua, actress Sofia Aparício, and activists Miguel Duarte and Diogo Chaves had been detained in Israel since the night of last Wednesday to Thursday. This was following the interception of approximately 50 vessels from the Global Sumud Flotilla by Israeli forces, which aimed to deliver humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip.
