
Mário Jorge Henriques Silvestre, aged 51, has been the Deputy National Commander of Emergency and Civil Protection since May 2024.
He was appointed by the Secretary of State for Civil Protection, Paulo Simões Ribeiro, following a proposal from the President of the National Authority for Emergency and Civil Protection (ANEPC), José Manuel Moura.
The Ministry of Internal Administration (MAI) also announced that José Manuel Ribeiro, the current Regional Commander of Emergency and Civil Protection for Alentejo, has been appointed as the new Deputy Commander of ANEPC.
Both appointments are pending publication in the official government gazette, Diário da República.
Mário Silvestre holds a master’s degree in risks and civil protection and has completed several training courses under the European Union Civil Protection Mechanism. His previous roles include National Operations Deputy of the National Emergency and Civil Protection Command, District Operational Commander of Santarém, and Commander of the Cartaxo Municipal Firefighters.
