Maritime Police issue 5 notices after inspection on the Tagus River

“During the operation, six maritime-tourist vessels on the Tagus River and 10 sales posts in the Belém area were inspected,” stated the National Maritime Authority (AMN) in a statement released today, noting that the inspection involved the Local Command of the Lisbon Maritime Police, in collaboration with the Tax Authority (AT) and the National Communications Authority (ANACOM).

According to the AMN, infractions were recorded relating to the irregular issuance of invoices, the lack of certified invoicing software, the expiry of seaworthiness certificates, lifesaving equipment (hand flares), certificates of water, the absence of civil liability insurance, the lack of crew rosters, and the use of radios not approved by the European Commission.

In light of the identified infractions, the Lisbon Maritime Police issued five notices of infraction and, as a precautionary measure, seized three radios, the Maritime Authority revealed.

The inspection operation was carried out with the involvement of 10 members of the Local Command of the Lisbon Maritime Police, in collaboration with two inspectors from the AT and four agents from ANACOM.

In a statement, the AMN said that this inter-institutional cooperation effort aimed to “ensure the legality and safety of the maritime-tourist activity.”
