A request from the Directorate-General for Natural Resources, Safety, and Maritime Services (DGRM) prompted the police to inspect a vessel suspected of illegal trawling off Costa Vicentina. The inspection uncovered “undeclared catches and fish from activities conducted in prohibited areas,” according to a statement from the National Maritime Authority (AMN) distributed to newsrooms today.
Approximately 600 kilograms of seized fish were sold at auction, and the captain “has been notified of the infraction,” the AMN noted.
Additionally, the fishing vessel was seized “as a precautionary measure,” under the escort of the Portuguese Navy ship NRP Figueira da Foz. The operation involved a member of the Portimão Harbor Master’s Office, two officers from the Portimão Maritime Police, supported by a vehicle, and two inspectors from the DGRM.
