
Statistics for transportation and communications indicate that road traffic increased by 5%, following an 11% rise in 2023; rail traffic rose by 9.2% (+16.7% in 2023); metro usage went up by 9% (+20.7% in 2023); air travel increased by 4.6% (+19.4% in 2023); and river transport rose by 6.8% (+21.5% in 2023).
Only maritime transport saw a decrease of 1.4% last year, compared to a 15.1% increase in 2023.
Freight transport by road and rail decreased by 8.4% (-8.8% in 2023) and 8.1% (+2.2% in 2023), respectively.
Conversely, air and maritime freight transport registered increases of 14.8% (+0.1% in 2023) and 4.6% (-2.9% in 2023), respectively.
In the communications sector, internet access rose by 2.5% in 2024, following a 2.9% increase in 2023, with fiber optics growing at a faster rate (+6.6%; +7.1% in 2023).
Fixed-line telephone access also rose by 0.4%, following a 1.2% increase in 2023, as did active mobile access with effective use (+0.6%; -1.2% in 2023) and subscription TV service subscribers (+1.5%; +2.1% in 2023).
Broadband internet traffic grew by 14.1%, after an 18.2% rise in 2023.
Fixed network voice traffic decreased by 6.8% in the number of calls and 13.4% in conversation minutes, while in the mobile network, the number of calls increased by 0.7%, despite a 1.4% reduction in conversation minutes.
Meanwhile, postal traffic saw a decrease of 6.4% in 2024, following a 4.9% decline the previous year.
