The Macau Cultural Institute announced that Mariza will perform at the Cultural Center as part of the Macau Orchestra’s program for the 2025-26 season.
The program describes Mariza as an “international fado superstar” and states she will present songs from this musical genre, accompanied by a symphonic version of the orchestra, conducted by local maestro Tony Yeh Cheng-te.
Mariza previously performed in the region in November 2024, with the Macao Chinese Orchestra during the latest Macau International Music Festival (FIMM).
The upcoming FIMM will feature a fadista for the third consecutive edition, as Cuca Roseta is set to perform with the Macao Chinese Orchestra on October 11.
FIMM returned to the stage in 2022 after a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic. That program included two shows with international guests, one of which involved Portuguese artist António Zambujo, though only through recorded performances.
Foreign artists made their return in 2023, following the lifting of entry restrictions to the region, in a program that featured a concert by Gisela João.
The Macao Chinese Orchestra previously collaborated with Portuguese musicians, including fado singers (and siblings) Camané and Hélder Moutinho, guitarist Custódio Castelo, and band Ala dos Namorados.
The Macao Chinese Orchestra was established in 1987, during the Portuguese administration of the city, while the Macau Orchestra was officially founded in 2001. Both orchestras have been part of a public capital company since February 2022.
