Marques Mendes does not want to be President “like the Queen of England”

The comparison was reiterated twice by Marques Mendes to clarify his statement, emphasizing that he holds no objections against the Queen of England or, today, the King of England.

“I will be a proactive, interventionist President, with action. Never a Queen of England, not that I have anything against the Queen of England or today against the King of England, but what Portugal needs is something different. Greater capacity for action and intervention,” he stated.

The candidate, supported by PSD and CDS-PP, speaking at a dinner with supporters in Monção, in the Viana do Castelo district, indicated that his vision for the presidency does not involve waiting “for more diagnoses (…) or an outburst (…), I will not be waiting for moods,” but rather moving “forward.”

“A President of the Republic does not govern, true. A President of the Republic does not make laws, undoubtedly, but if the President of the Republic knows how to use his word well and his influence magistracy, he can decisively help resolve many concrete problems that exist in Portugal,” he reinforced in front of 500 attendees at his speech.
