Newly elected official Luís Filipe Menezes expressed concerns on social media about “poorly coordinated projects and lack of oversight,” assigning blame to the transportation company and the previous socialist administration of the municipality.
“The new Metro administration must assume the unfortunate legacy it received. They must immediately compensate all affected citizens and the City Council for the damages now incurred, and also for two years of municipal roads disguised with senseless traffic diversions,” wrote Menezes.
Menezes urged the administration of Metro do Porto and the state to “assume complementary responsibilities” and proposed negotiating with the construction consortium to expedite the works.
“No one can endure two more years of this ordeal,” added the newly elected official, who was elected through the PSD/CDS-PP/IL coalition and returns to lead Gaia City Hall, which he previously headed from 1997 to 2013.
The Lusa agency contacted Metro do Porto, which declined to comment.
