“I remind you that today is the tenth day of this fire, the tenth day. How can such a small country (…) allow us to be consumed in a slow burn for ten days,” stated Alexandre Favaios.
The councilor spoke to journalists about a significant resurgence this afternoon in the fire that ignited on August 2 in Sirarelhos and has been brought under control twice.
On Sunday night, the councilor called for a strong reinforcement of resources to combat the fire that, over 10 days, affected 17 villages in this municipality, including areas of the Alvão Natural Park, and urged that resources remain on the ground.
“Well, today’s events show we were right. Indeed, we have been hearing for a long time that this situation was under control,” he noted.
He added: “It’s time for ANEPC, the National Coordination, to say something. It’s time for the minister, who told the country that we were all prepared, that the resources were sufficient, to realize today that, after all, they were not. It’s time to hear the prime minister say something to this population that is still in the state of unrest evident today.”
