
According to the “Agricultural Statistics 2024” by the National Institute of Statistics (INE), beef production (493 thousand tons including beef, pork, lamb, goat, and equine meat) increased by 5.2%, and poultry production (including chickens, turkeys, and ducks) grew by 4.6%, reaching 440 thousand tons.
Beef (102 thousand tons), pork (376 thousand tons), and lamb (13.9 thousand tons) recorded increases of 3.4%, 5.5%, and 12.0% respectively, while goat meat (1.0 thousand tons) fell by 9.6%.
Chicken meat production (358 thousand tons) grew by 6.2%, as did turkey meat, which grew by 1.6% to a production of 50.9 thousand tons.
Conversely, duck meat (11.4 thousand tons) saw a decline of 10.2% compared to 2023.
INE data also indicate that total production of chicken eggs reached 155 thousand tons in 2024, an increase of 1.4%, with the volume of eggs for consumption (132 thousand tons) growing by 0.7% and eggs for incubation (23.0 thousand tons) increasing by 5.9% compared to 2023.
On the opposite trend, total milk production reached 1.970 billion liters, marking a decrease of 1.3% compared to 2023, with cow’s milk volume (1.879 billion liters) dropping by 1.2% and sheep and goat milk by 4.3% and 5.4%, respectively.
In 2024, the national dairy industry’s production saw a lower total volume of dairy products, resulting from a decrease in fresh products (consumption milk down by 6.8% to 622 thousand tons), while the total volume of processed products experienced an “insignificant” variation (-0.6%).
Cheese production increased by 2.0%, as did butter and powdered milk, which rose by 6.2% and 7.7%, respectively.
