A cat that was being improperly medicated during live streams on social media was rescued on Tuesday in Torres Vedras.
The IRA – Animal Intervention and Rescue received an alert reporting that the cat’s owner was conducting live streams where she allegedly administered drugs to the animal in order to gain sympathy from her followers and boost her online monetary collections illegally.
The National Republican Guard (GNR) was called to the scene, as well as the IRA, which ended up collecting the cat. The animal will be evaluated by a veterinarian to “determine the existence of mistreatment or any other illegal acts that compromise the animal’s well-being.”
According to an IRA post on Facebook, the animal’s owner is “clinically monitored for cognitive problems,” and it was confirmed that the woman has “some inability to understand not only the reality of the exposed situation but also other mundane matters.”
“Due to these circumstances, our teams will handle the case with special sensitivity, ensuring the well-being of the animal as well as that of its owner,” the IRA states in the post.
