Medieval Days return to Castro Marim between August 27 and 31

For five days, the castle of Castro Marim will serve as the focal point of the event, featuring live demonstrations of crafts and leather or iron production, along with medieval horseback tournaments, according to a statement from the local council in Faro district.

One of the main highlights of the event organized by the municipality is the parade, held on the first and final day in the late afternoon, involving all entertainers, extras, and village residents, who participate annually dressed in medieval costumes.

Another highlight of the Medieval Days in Castro Marim are the banquets, conducted in an exclusive space illuminated by torchlight, offering a menu of historical delicacies, complemented by performances from entertainment groups, the council adds.

The event gathers around 30 national and international entertainment groups from countries such as Italy and France, and includes participation from the twin town of Guérande in France and Cortegana in Spain.

These groups will rotate and be distributed across various stages, from the market to the castle, presenting street theaters and featuring jugglers, fire-breathers, pipers, acrobats, swordsmen, snake charmers, parades, and falconry demonstrations.

The castle of Castro Marim will also host exhibitions of torture and punishment instruments and the First Headquarters of the Order of Christ.

At the Fort of S. Sebastião, a historical reenactment of 17th-century civil and military daily life during the Restoration period will take place, with performances and demonstrations by professionals from the Real Academia do Terço.
