Melo ends campaign in the Azores confident in the CDS victory in Velas

“We wanted to conclude the electoral campaign precisely here in the Azores, where, hopefully, on Sunday, all eyes will be on this municipality, and I am confident that we will achieve an extraordinary victory once again,” Nuno Melo stated during a door-to-door campaign in Fajã do Ouvidor.

Velas, which has been governed by Luís Silveira from the CDS for the last 12 years, is the only Azorean municipality and one of only six in the country under centrist leadership. The national party leader is certain that Catarina Cabeceiras, the current CDS deputy to the Azorean parliament and the leading candidate for the municipal council, will win Sunday’s election.

“The CDS administration delivers significant results to populations wherever the CDS has succeeded, and with Catarina here in Velas, we have the best possible successor as she embodies all the merits of our governance, which the population acknowledges,” Nuno Melo reiterated to journalists.

The centrist leader also provided a brief overview of the electoral campaign for the October 12 elections: “It has been an extraordinary campaign. We have traveled thousands of kilometers. We started in the north of the country, in Ponta de Lima, and we conclude here in the Azores, in Velas, on this beautiful island of São Jorge.”

The CDS-PP is in charge of six municipalities in Portugal: Velas (in the Azores), Santana (in Madeira), Ponte de Lima (in Viana do Castelo), and Vale de Cambra, Oliveira do Hospital, and Abergaria-a-Velha (in Aveiro).
