A 21-year-old man has been detained by the Polícia Judiciária (PJ) on suspicion of attempting to murder two men, aged 31 and 36, using a firearm in the municipality of Loulé, Algarve, on November 30.

In a statement released today, the investigators disclosed that the suspect fired at the victims in a public area following a “dispute over trivial matters.”

The severity of the injuries sustained by both men required their hospitalization at Faro Hospital. One of the victims had to be transferred to Santa Maria Hospital in Lisbon, where he remains hospitalized.

Following the shooting, the young man fled the scene but was located approximately 48 hours later.

The suspect has since been presented for the initial judicial interrogation and is now under the preventive detention measure.

The investigation will now be conducted by the Public Prosecutor’s Office (MP) in Loulé.
