The delegation from the European Parliament’s Committee on Petitions will be in Madeira until the 30th and has scheduled visits to housing projects funded by the European Union’s Recovery and Resilience Plan (RRP).
The visit occurs against the backdrop of the EU housing crisis, with house prices and rents having risen significantly. According to the European Council, Lisbon, Barcelona, and Madrid are EU cities where residents allocate a higher percentage of their salary to housing costs.
The EU delegation will also assess the impact of forest fires, which have caused significant damage across the island.
During the visit, the delegation meets with the President of the Regional Government of Madeira, Miguel Albuquerque, as well as other members of the Madeiran executive, to discuss the results obtained and define possible future actions.
The Members of the European Parliament are also scheduled to meet with citizens who filed a petition with the European Parliament, whose concerns prompted the organization of this mission.
