The Union of Workers of Commerce, Offices, and Services of Portugal (CESP) is set to initiate a series of protest actions this Saturday.
“Mercadona attacks our rights daily: it harasses working mothers and fathers attempting to exercise their right to accompany their children,” the union stated in a communication.
The union claims that the Spanish supermarket chain challenges in court the opinions of the Commission for Equality in Work and Employment (CITE) that favor the workers.
Additionally, Mercadona is accused of illegally marking unjustified absences, discriminating, persecuting, and punishing workers, particularly those who demand their rights. It allegedly fails to abide by the Collective Labor Contract, forcing workers to perform tasks beyond their duties.
This Saturday, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, the union plans to denounce these practices at stores in Viana do Castelo, Águeda, Montijo, Caldas, and Santarém, Real Braga, and at Mercadona Campanhã and Alverca.
Contact has been made with Mercadona, awaiting a response.
