The Spanish retail chain Mercadona is set to open a new supermarket on Tuesday in the Sameiro commercial area, located in Milhundos-Penafiel. This marks the company’s second inauguration of the year within Portugal. Additionally, Mercadona has announced another opening slated for May 21 in Fafe.
The upcoming supermarket in Fafe will open its doors on May 21 at 9:00 a.m. and will be situated at Via Circular nº 2500, 4820-521 Quinchães, according to a statement from the Spanish group.
This new outlet is expected to create approximately 65 permanent and high-quality jobs, with contracts starting on the first day, thus supporting local employment.
The store in Fafe will be the first in the municipality and the eighth opened by Mercadona in the Braga district. The company’s statement indicates that this opening demonstrates the ongoing national expansion plan.
In addition to Penafiel and Fafe, Mercadona plans to launch new supermarkets this year in Loures, Leiria, Matosinhos, Palmela, Lisbon, and Porto. In line with the Spanish brand’s expansion strategy, a total of 10 new stores are set to be inaugurated in the coming year.
Mercadona aims to open 10 new supermarkets this year, aiming to conclude 2025 with a network of 70 stores nationwide. The first opening was scheduled for March.
