A labor dispute involving approximately 60 workers is due to the existence of four distinct career paths for employees performing similar roles, resulting in discrepancies in salaries and career advancement opportunities, according to the trade union.
Orlando Almeida, a representative of the FNSTFPS, stated that “nothing has been done” by the authorities to address the situation and to integrate all workers into the higher technical career path as intended.
The 24-hour strike may disrupt meteorological information services provided to airports and airfields, Almeida noted.
The Ministry of Agriculture and the Sea, which oversees IPMA, conveyed that it is “coordinating efforts” with the Ministry of Finance “to resolve this situation.”
“The issue concerns the consolidation process of inter-career mobility for IPMA’s meteorological observers, a goal of the workers since 2017, which the current Government aims to address,” remarked the Ministry of Agriculture and the Sea.
