Regarding the red wind warning for these two islands, it is in effect from 00:00 to 06:00 on Friday, with wind blowing from the east and shifting northward.

The IPMA has also issued a red warning for maritime conditions in the same group from 03:00 to 12:00 on Friday, with southwest waves shifting to the northwest, and maximum waves expected to reach 14 to 18 meters.

Besides the red warnings, the IPMA has issued orange and yellow warnings for all the islands in the Azores.

In the Western group, an orange warning for heavy rain is in effect from 18:00 to 21:00 on Thursday, and another for wind from 18:00 on Thursday to 00:00 on Friday, with wind direction from the south shifting to the east.

An additional orange warning for maritime conditions, with southwest waves, is in place from 21:00 on Thursday to 00:00 on Friday for the same group of islands.

Two more orange warnings for wind and maritime disturbances in this group are valid from 06:00 to 15:00 on Friday.

In the Central group, a yellow warning for wind, blowing from the south, is in effect from 18:00 to 21:00 on Thursday.

In the same group of islands, another yellow warning is in effect for precipitation from 21:00 on Thursday to 15:00 on Friday.

In the Oriental group (Santa Maria and São Miguel), three yellow warnings are in effect for maritime conditions, precipitation, and wind from 06:00 to 18:00 on Friday.

The Azores are set to be influenced by Cyclone Gabrielle, which was located on Tuesday approximately 2,640 kilometers southwest of the Western group of the Azores, moving northeast.

According to the Azores surveillance center, Gabrielle is currently classified as a Category 4 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson scale (ranging from 1 to 5, with 5 being the most severe).

However, meteorologist Rita Mota stated that “as it approaches the Azores archipelago, it is expected to lose intensity, reaching the region with tropical storm or Category 1 hurricane strength winds.”
