“The Michelin Guide serves as a prominent showcase for what is essential, which is affirming Madeira’s tourism as a high-quality and premium destination,” stated Miguel Albuquerque to journalists during the presentation of the book “Madeira – Turismo 2015-2024,” an initiative by the Regional Secretariat for Environment, Tourism, and Culture.
The gala event in Funchal, scheduled for March next year, “will be very important for promoting Madeira with a group of new Madeiran chefs, many of whom have just been nominated, while others are on their way to earning a star,” he added.
“The idea is to continue establishing ourselves as a destination where the culinary scene and gastronomy are of high quality,” emphasized Miguel Albuquerque.
The announcement of the 2026 gala in Madeira was made on Thursday during a press conference at the Hospitality and Tourism School in Lisbon, where it was also announced that the 2027 gala would take place in the country’s Central region.
In Madeira, which boasts a total of four Michelin stars, the culinary coordination of the event will be led by Benoît Sinthon, the chef at Il Gallo d’Oro, a Funchal-based restaurant awarded two Michelin stars and a Green Michelin star, as indicated in a press release.
Besides these two stars, restaurants William and Desarma, also located in Funchal, each hold one Michelin star.
Restaurants recommended by the guide include Avista, Avista Ásia, Vila do Peixe, Horta, Ákua, Oxalis, Audax, Gazebo, and Casal da Penha.
The Michelin Guide gala is an event where the new Michelin stars awarded to restaurants in Portugal, as well as other mentions in the Michelin Guide, are officially announced.
The ceremony gathers chefs, critics, journalists, and notable figures in gastronomy.
