The Minister of Culture, Dalila Rodrigues, today congratulated directors Miguel Gomes and Daniel Soares on their awards at the Cannes Film Festival in France, stressing that Portuguese cinema is showing great vitality.
Speaking to journalists at the end of the session marking the 60th anniversary of the death of the writer Aquilino Ribeiro, at the National Pantheon in Lisbon, Dalila Rodrigues said that “this is excellent news”.
Miguel Gomes won the Best Director Award for his feature film “Grand Tour” and Daniel Soares won a special mention for his short film “Bad for a moment” at the 77th edition of the Cannes International Film Festival, which ends today.
“Cinema, architecture, the visual arts and literature show signs of great vitality. It’s not necessary to take part in competitions to recognize vitality and value, but when we win these international awards, of course, we are all to be congratulated,” said the minister.
