“The Prime Minister is resting today and will continue to do so tomorrow [Sunday], and on Monday, he will resume his usual activities. Fortunately, I believe we have a prime minister with robust health and a great desire to continue serving the country,” stated Pedro Duarte in Porto, during a visit to the construction site of the future training center of the Porto Football Association.
Pedro Duarte, who has been in “constant contact” with the Prime Minister, reported that the incident requiring Luis Montenegro’s visit to the emergency room at Hospital de Santa Maria, in Lisbon, was “a minor mishap” and “fortunately is behind us.”
“There is no reason for concern or schedule changes, just the cancellation of Friday afternoon’s agenda, which everyone understands, and the weekend’s plans, as everyone will understand (…) since [the Prime Minister] is resting today and tomorrow, but that’s only for two days and it does not disrupt his activities at all,” assured Pedro Duarte.
The Prime Minister was admitted on Friday around 1 p.m. with symptoms of cardiac arrhythmia and was discharged from the hospital by 8:40 p.m.

Luís Montenegro left a message for the healthcare professionals, emphasizing “the excellence of medical care” provided by the National Health Service (SNS).

Carlos das Neves Martins, President of the Management Board of ULS de Santa Maria, clarified that Luis Montenegro “was directed to cardiology due to the symptoms.”
Later in the day, roughly 40 minutes after being discharged, the Prime Minister expressed gratitude for “the excellence of medical care and the competence of the professionals at the National Health Service.”
“I am calmly heading home to rest over the weekend, following a visit to Hospital de Santa Maria where I addressed a cardiac arrhythmia episode. Once again, I witnessed the excellence of medical care and the professionalism of the National Health Service staff. Many thanks to all, and I also wish to thank everyone for the supportive messages I received,” he wrote on social media platform X.
